The 47-year-old actress is best known for her television roles on "Spin City," "Melrose Place" and "Dynasty." She was arrested for suspicion of DUI and being under the influence of a controlled substance Saturday.

"Around 4:30 p.m., a female witness saw Heather Locklear driving erratically while leaving a parking lot in Montecito," California Highway Patrol spokesman Tom Marshall told People magazine. "The witness said Locklear was revving her engine loudly and backed over a pair of sunglasses several times. ... The witness called 911 because she was concerned for Locklear's safety. When a CHP officer arrived, Locklear was found seated inside her vehicle, which was partially blocking the roadway."

Marshall said Locklear was taken to a nearby police station because she seemed "disoriented and impaired."

"Alcohol was ruled out as a factor but, based on the officer's observations, we believe Locklear was under the influence of prescription medication," Marshall said.

People said Locklear's attorney Blair Berk wasn't immediately available to make a statement and her publicist had no comment regarding the arrest.

Branagh has starred in and directed "Henry V," "Dead Again," "Hamlet," "Much Ado About Nothing," "Mary Shelley's Frankenstein" and "Love's Labour Lost."

Variety.com said he is in negotiations to direct "Thor," which is about a disabled medical student who has an alter ego as the hammer-wielding Norse god Thor. The movie is slated for release in 2010.

The entertainment trade newspaper noted that, should Branagh sign on to the project, he would be the latest member of the club comprised of filmmakers with art house roots who recently have tackled comic-book franchises. Jon Favreau, Christopher Nolan, Ang Lee and Gavin Hood have all tried their hands at making big-budget action movies based on comic-book heroes.
