Records show tourists damaging Brit art

LONDON, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Collections of art in some of Britain's top museums and galleries have suffered accidental damage at the hands of tourists, official records show.

Records from the National Gallery, the Tate and the Victoria and Albert Museum in Britain show visitors have harmed a number of valuable art works such as an Anish Kapoor sculpture clipped by a cameraman's tripod and a Carl Andre piece coated in vomit, The Observer reported Sunday.

Records also show that while most damage has been caused by tourist accidents, some has been brought about by vandalism or through staff incidents.

In one case, a security guard at the Victoria and Albert Museum damaged an art installation by textile artist Sue Lawty by tripping over a barrier.

The National Gallery was victimized in 2003 when an unidentified man allegedly punched "An Allegory with Venus and Cupid," denting the painting created by Florentine artist Agnolo Bronzino.
