McAdams joins 'Sherlock' cast

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Canadian actress Rachel McAdams reportedly has signed up for a role in Guy Ritchie's star-studded movie "Sherlock Holmes."

McAdams is to play Irene Adler, a character from Arthur Conan Doyle's 1891 Holmes tale "A Scandal in Bohemia," The Hollywood Reporter said.

Robert Downey Jr. is playing Holmes, Mark Strong is playing the film's main baddie Blackwood and Jude Law is playing Holmes's sidekick Watson.

Ritchie and Strong previously collaborated on the current release "RockNRolla."

McAdams is best known for her work in "The Notebook," "The Family Stone," "Wedding Crashers" and "Red Eye."

"Sherlock Holmes" is scheduled to begin shooting next month, The Hollywood Reporter said.
