CHICAGO, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- As he prepares for the 18th season of his notorious U.S. talk show, Jerry Springer said he will be working hard to win his first Daytime Emmy Award.

The new season of the syndicated "The Jerry Springer Show" is to begin Sept. 22.

"Springer, who is the host of NBC's smash hit 'America's Got Talent,' has seen enough wacky acts on his prime-time show, so this season 'The Jerry Springer Show' is returning to old school 'Springer,'" NBC Universal Television Distribution said in a news release. "And the veteran host believes the return to form should help achieve his biggest career goal, to finally win a Daytime Emmy."

"This is our year and we are pulling out all the stops, well, at least we are campaigning at truck stops," Springer added. "Please help me by going to our show's Web site or better yet, maybe you can join the TV Academy?"

"The American television audience has fallen in love with Jerry all over again and this season we are giving the viewers what they want, more Jerry," Executive Producer Rachelle Consiglio said. "And hopefully our efforts will help lead Jerry to that elusive first Daytime Emmy. He definitely deserves one. OK, maybe not definitely."
