LOS ANGELES, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- U.S. actor Luke Perry said he has no plans to reprise his role of Dylan McKay on "90210," the new spinoff of his iconic series "Beverly Hills, 90210."

It was revealed this week on the spinoff that Dylan was the father of Kelly's 4-year-old son. Kelly was played by Jennie Garth on the original series and is reprising her role on the new edition.

Asked by reporters what he thought about the bombshell news that his former small-screen alter ego fathered a child with his on-again, off-again girlfriend Kelly, "Entertainment Tonight" quoted him as saying, "They own the name and likeness."

Grilled by the journalists about whether he plans to appear on the spinoff, he said, "That would be a no."

"When shows take off and they sort of, you know, become part of the American psyche like that, there is a time when it's happening that you are a little resentful of it because you had no idea it could possibly get that big," he explained. "When you stop and look at the whole of your life and you look at the whole picture from that perspective I'm very proud of it. It was a lot of fun. It gives you a neat relationship with the American public. It really does put you on a little bit of a closer basis with all kinds of people. The world could use a little more of that."
