NEW YORK, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Eoin Colfer, the Irish author of the Artemis Fowl books, is penning a new fantasy novel in "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" franchise, Hyperion said.
The sixth book in the series, which was created and written by the late Douglas Adams, will be called "And Another Thing ..." and is to be published in October 2009, Hyperion said.
"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" originated as a radio series and was later adapted as a television series, comics, a play, a movie, a computer game and five books.
"I am delighted that Eoin Colfer has agreed to continue the 'Hitchhiker' series," Jane Belson, Adams's widow, said in a statement. "I love Colfer's books and could not think of a better person to transport Arthur, Zaphod and Marvin to pastures new."
Colfer said at first he was angry that someone would be allowed to "tamper with this incredible series."
"But on reflection, I realized that this is a wonderful opportunity to work with characters I have loved since childhood and give them something of my own voice while holding on to the spirit of Douglas Adams," Colfer said. "I am bloody determined that this will be the best thing I have ever written."
