LOS ANGELES, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- U.S. actress, author and Jenny Craig spokeswoman Valerie Bertinelli is set to star in a pilot for a new, as-yet-untitled comedy series, TBS announced.

Bertinelli is best known for her work on the sit-com "One Day at a Time" in the 1970s and 1980s. She also joined the cast of the TV drama "Touched by an Angel" toward the end of its run in the early 2000s.

The two-time Golden Globe winner is now set to star in a pilot from writer/executive producer Dave Caplan, whose credits include TBS's sit-com "The Bill Engvall Show," as well as "George Lopez" and "The Drew Carey Show."

Caplan's new show is about a single mother trying to run a business while raising two children and is inspired by events in Caplan's life, TBS said.

Caplan wrote the pilot script and will serve as executive producer along with Neal Moritz and Vivian Cannon.

Bertinelli will also serve as producer.

"Valerie Bertinelli became a popular fixture on television playing one of two children being raised by a single working mother," Michael Wright, senior vice president in charge of the Content Creation Group for TBS, TNT and Turner Classic Movies, said in a statement. "Now she's exploring that world from the opposite angle, playing a single working mother raising two children. Between Valerie's comic skills and Dave Caplan's highly relatable humor, we're very excited to watch this pilot take shape."
