MUMBAI, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- The makers of a Indian movie called "Hari Puttar" say their film has nothing to do with the "Harry Potter" series but Warner Bros. has filed a lawsuit anyway.
Warners' action contends "Hari" has too many similarities to "Harry" and the suit is to be heard this week in the Mumbai high court, The Guardian reported Monday.
Mirchi Movies, based in Mumbai, is set to release its film "Hari Puttar: A Comedy of Terrors" on Sept. 12 in the subcontinent but the lawsuit from the U.S. media conglomerate could endanger that.
A spokesman for Warner Bros. told the newspaper: "We have recently commenced proceedings against parties involved in the production and distribution of a movie entitled 'Hari Puttar.' Warner Bros. values and protects intellectual property rights. However, it is our policy not to discuss publicly the details of any ongoing litigation."
Mirchi Movies Chief Operating Officer Munish Purii responded by telling The Guardian: "We registered the 'Hari Puttar' title in 2005, and it's unfortunate that Warners has chosen to file a case so close to our film's release. In my opinion, I don't think our title has any similarity or links with Harry Potter."
