LONDON, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Former rock star and convicted child abuser Gary Glitter was taken from Heathrow Airport to a secret location after arriving Friday in Britain, sources say.
The 1970s glam rocker, who was released from a Vietnamese prison this week after serving nearly three years for a having sex with children, arrived in Britain Friday morning after he was refused entry into Thailand and Hong Kong, The Times of London reported.
Citing unnamed sources, the newspaper said Glitter was taken to an undisclosed location after meeting with police.
Reporters and photographers had gathered Friday at a London courtroom where Glitter, real name Paul Gadd, 64, was expected to appear to argue that he shouldn't have to be added to the official sex offenders registry. Instead, attorney David Corker appeared for him, arguing that Glitter's Vietnam child sex conviction was a "show trial."
But District Judge David Simpson ruled that Glitter must ibe placed on the registry, which, under relatively new powers created in 2003, means police will be able to monitor his movements, The Times said. Glitter can appeal the order within the next 21 days but Corker didn't confirm whether his client would do so,
