Wilco attempting to organize fan carpools

BOSTON, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Wilco is trying to help the environment by getting its fans to carpool to the U.S. rock band's upcoming shows, the band's manager says.

Manager Tony Margherita said by organizing carpools to the band's tour dates nationwide, the "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" rockers hope to make a positive impact on the environment, The Boston Globe reported Sunday.

"The thing we were trying to look at is: What is the thing in any given show that probably has the biggest environmental impact?" Margherita said. "That's the thousands of people driving in their cars from

their homes to the venue."

Fans can help in the endeavor through Wilco's Web site and to date, nearly 100 people have registered for the carpooling.

The Globe said fans can organize into carpools based on which upcoming Wilco show they want to see and where they live in relation to the venue.
