'Mad Men' star: I'm no Don Draper

NEW YORK, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- U.S. actor Jon Hamm says treating women badly as his character Don Draper on the 1960s-set TV series "Mad Men" doesn't come naturally to him.

"I was raised by a single mom and am surrounded by strong women, so seeing females treated as nothing more than ornaments or toys doesn't sit well with me," Hamm told Page Six magazine, which is included in Sunday's New York Post. "But it's very true to life in the 1960s."

Hamm, who is up for an Emmy Award for his portrayal of the chain-smoking New York ad executive, also revealed that transforming himself into Draper is "all in the wardrobe."

"I put on the suit, slick back my hair and suddenly I'm a megalomaniacal bastard," he said.
