LOS ANGELES, July 21 (UPI) -- Mark Feuerstein has signed on to star in a 90-minute pilot for a new TV drama called "Royal Pains," the USA Network announced.

Feuerstein has appeared in the movies "What Women Want," "Practical Magic" and "Woman on Top." He also starred in the situation comedy "Good Morning, Miami" and has made guest appearances on "The West Wing" and "Once and Again."

His casting was announced Sunday by Jeff Wachtel, executive vice president of USA's original programming and co-head of original programming for Universal Cable Productions.

"'Royal Pains' is a great idea realized in a bright and wonderful way in Andrew (Lenchewski's) script," Wachtel said in a statement. "Like many of the stars on our network, Mark has played some great characters in his career and is ready to break out in a starring role."

The network said the show is about a young doctor, Hank Lawson, "who seems to have it all -- thriving career, beautiful girlfriend, and swank (New York) apartment. With one fateful and principled decision in the ER, Hank loses it all."

After crashing a party at a Hamptons mansion, however, Hank "jumps into action when a guest requires medical attention that only he is able to diagnose."

The incident ultimately leads to a new job -- as "the on-call doctor for the rich, famous and infamous," the network said.
