Fans worried about fate of 'Who' companion

LONDON, July 2 (UPI) -- Fans of the British science-fiction series "Doctor Who" are bracing for the death of a beloved main character in the upcoming season finale.

The Daily Telegraph said Saturday's installment on BBC One will be the last regular episode by screenwriter and executive producer Russell T. Davies, who is to leave the show after four special episodes next year.

The show's most recent episodes have hinted that one of the Doctor's friends will die in the season's ender, aptly titled "Journey's End."

The finale, which will star David Tennant as the title character, is said to include appearances by Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones, Billie Piper as Rose Piper, Catherine Tate as Donna Noble, John Barrowman as Captain Jack and Elizabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith.

Although which character may perish remains unclear, many fans speculate Captain Jack and Sarah Jane will make it out alive, since they are the main characters on the respective "Doctor Who" spin-offs "Torchwood" and "The Sarah Jane Chronicles," the Telegraph noted.
