Stuntman killed on set of John Woo movie

BEIJING, June 10 (UPI) -- A 23-year-old stuntman was killed in a fire on the set of John Woo's new movie "Chi Bi" or "The Battle of Red Cliff" in a Beijing suburb, fire officials said.

The Beijing News said three other people were injured and production on the historical epic was halted after the fire broke out early Monday.

The crew reportedly had been shooting a scene in which a small boat crashed with a large ancient war vessel. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The News said Woo was in Hong Kong and the second unit director was in charge of shooting at the time of the fire. The film has a budget of $80 million and stars Tony Leung, Zhang Fengyi and Takeshi Kaneshiro.

An adaptation of the classic Chinese novel, "Romance of the Three Kingdoms," the film is to be divided into two parts with the first part to be released next month.
