HOUSTON, June 3 (UPI) -- A member of Emilio Navaira's Grupo Rio band and another passenger on a bus that crashed while Navaira was driving it are suing Navaira's company in Houston.
Tejano singer Navaira is still recovering from injuries he sustained in the March 23 accident.
The Houston Chronicle said Daniel Sandoval, the band's drummer, and Pedro Perez, the grandfather of another band member, are asking for unspecified damages from Emilio Inc., Navaira's company, in a lawsuit filed last week in Houston.
Although Sandoval suffered head and back injuries in the accident, Perez' grandson, bajo sexto player Eddie Perez, was quoted in a March 25 article in the San Antonio Express-News as saying the elder Perez wasn't hurt in the crash.
The suit, which claims the men suffered "serious, permanent and disabling injuries," does not name Navaira individually, the Chronicle said.
Navaira, 45, had a blood-alcohol content of more than twice the legal limit at the time of the crash, police said. He also didn't have the license required to legally drive the vehicle.
