LONDON, May 6 (UPI) -- British rock star Pete Doherty was released from prison Tuesday after serving 29 days of a 14-week sentence for probation violations.

The 29-year-old Babyshambles front man, who has been battling an addiction to drugs for years, was jailed after he failed to adhere to the terms of his suspended sentence for drug possession.

Upon leaving Wormwood Scrubs Prison in West London early Tuesday, Doherty told reporters he was happy to be free.

He also said he was eager to enjoy a rum and Coke and spend time with his cats, The Times of London reported.

The troubled recording artist then borrowed a journalist's cell phone to call for a ride, the newspaper said.
