LOS ANGELES, May 3 (UPI) -- The unexpected wedding of U.S. pop singer Mariah Carey and actor Nick Cannon has left some friends shocked, a source says.

An unidentified source close to Carey said the news of the "Touch My Body" singer's nuptials was shocking, but the couple apparently is happy with their decision, People.com reported Saturday.

"I'm shell-shocked," the source said. "As far as I know, they are happy together."

Cannon's brother, Gabriel, was equally surprised by the impromptu wedding which reportedly occurred April 30 in the Bahamas, just weeks after they met.

"It's crazy right! We're definitely happy. Well wishes!" Gabriel said. "I'm trying to be like him and I love him very much."

An industry insider told People.com the couple didn't meet until March 26 when they were both working in the Caribbean on Carey's music video for the song "Bye, Bye."

"Nick was cast as the romantic lead and was flown to Antigua where they met so basically their (romance) started during the shoot," the insider said, "She's very into religion and Nick is very into religion. That's something they bonded on."
