Jefferson Starship bandmates settle

SAN FRANCISCO, April 19 (UPI) -- A battle over the band name Jefferson Starship has ended amicably in San Francisco, one of the lawyers involved says.

Singer Grace Slick and ex-band manager Bill Thompson had sued guitarist Paul Kantner in federal court in March 2007 over control of the Starship name. Under the settlement, Kantner will pay a modest license fee so he can continue to use the band's name, as he has for years, while Slick and Thompson retain the rights to the name, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Saturday.

"It was never the purpose of Grace or Bill to stop Paul from working or making a living," said Glendon Miskel, who represents Slick and Thompson. "This is an amicable settlement between people who have shared careers over the last 40-plus years."

Albert Tumpson, who represents Kantner, characterized the settlement as "a fair result."
