Family, friends honor Ledger's birthday

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., April 5 (UPI) -- Friends and family members of Heath Ledger honored what would have been the late Hollywood star's 29th birthday.

Actress Kate Mara said at fundraising event Friday in Beverly Hills, Calif., that working with Ledger on the set of "Brokeback Mountain" was an honor, People magazine reported.

"It was an honor to work with him, and I think that he'll always be in people's thoughts," Mara said. "I think he affected people that he'd never met before."

An anonymous source said Ledger's family members also remembered the late actor, who died of an apparent accidental overdose in January, in their native Australia.

The source said the actor's family is still attempting to recuperate from Ledger's sudden death, offering no clues to how they would be honoring his birthday.

"It's just a day-by-day thing," the family source told People. "That's all a private family matter. It's got nothing to do with anyone else."
