NEW YORK, April 3 (UPI) -- Comedian Jerry Seinfeld is fine after flipping his car when the brakes failed as he was driving on Long Island, N.Y., his wife said.

The former sit-com star was driving alone in the Hamptons early last Saturday night when the brakes on his 1967 Fiat failed and he flipped his car trying to prevent it from traveling into an intersection, the New York Post reported Thursday.

Seinfeld's wife Jessica told the newspaper he walked away from the crash "without a scratch."

"He was a little shocked when he walked in and it started to dawn on him what happened," she said. "I was extremely relieved and grateful and I'm feeling very lucky that nothing happened. ... It could have been a lot worse, obviously, and thank God it wasn't. He's fine."

The Post said police determined the reason for the accident was mechanical failure and no summons was issued.

"Because I know there are kids out there, I want to make sure they all know that driving without braking is not something I recommend, unless you have professional clown training or a comedy background, as I do. It is not something I plan to make a habit of," Jerry Seinfeld said.
