SAG, AMPTP set date to begin negotiations

LOS ANGELES, April 2 (UPI) -- Hollywood's Screen Actors Guild said it has agreed to begin formal contract negotiations with a group of television and film producers this month.

SAG is to begin formal talks with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers April 15 at AMPTP headquarters in Encino, Calif.

"Now that we have concluded our Wages and Working Conditions process and the SAG National Board has approved our proposal package, we look forward to productive negotiations," Screen Actors Guild National Executive Director Doug Allen said in a statement posted on the SAG Web site.

The Screen Actors Guild, which describes itself as the largest labor union representing working actors in the United States, said it will have no further comment at this time.

The entertainment industry suffered a huge blow recently when the Writers Guild of America went on strike against the AMPTP for several months, shutting down nearly all scripted television shows in the United States.
