LEEDS, England, March 29 (UPI) -- British singer Corinne Bailey Rae conducted a pilgrimage to the county of West Yorkshire to honor the memory of her late husband, Jason Rae.

The 28-year-old singer traveled to Otley Chevin to place a posy of heather at the town's Easter cross, marking the first reported time she has been out in public since Jason Rae's death last weekend, The Daily Mail said Saturday.

The saxophonist was found dead at a friend's home last Saturday, the victim of an apparent drug overdose.

Friends of the couple said Jason Rae's lifestyle had been a point of contention in the marriage, but they said the couple remained dedicated to one another up until his death.

In an interview 18 months ago, Jason Rae appeared to accept the risks inherent in his lifestyle.

"I could die tomorrow and think I've lived my life," he said. "The lifestyle is part and parcel of being a musician. It makes you feel separate from the rest of the world. There's more angst, torture and edge to my life."

Corinne Bailey Rae's Web site manager posted a statement saying the singer was touched by the "love and support that's flooded in from all over the world," the BBC reported.
