LOS ANGELES, March 23 (UPI) -- The animated movie "Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who!" remained No. 1 in U.S. theaters this weekend, fending off a clutch of new offerings.
In its second week, "Horton" pulled in an estimated $25.1 million in ticket sales, Box Office Mojo reported Sunday.
Opening at No. 2 was "Meet the Browns," a comedy directed by and starring Tyler Perry, at $20.01 million. In third was another new film, "Shutter," a horror movie featuring Joshua Jackson and Rachael Taylor, at $10.7 million, while No. 4 was "Drillbit Taylor," another comedy starring Owen Wilson, which debuted with $10.2 million in estimated ticket sales.
Last week's second-place movie, "10,000 B.C.," slipped to fifth with $8.66 million. It was followed by "Never Back Down," $4.86 million; "College Road Trip," $4.63 million; "The Bank Job," $4.1 million; and "Vantage Point," $3.8 million.
Another new offering, "Under the Same Moon," which tells the topical story of an illegal immigrant and his family back in Mexico, came in at No. 10 with $2.6 million.
Gone from the Top 10 this week were "Doomsday," "The Other Boleyn Girl," :The Spiderwick Chronicles" and "Semi-Pro."
