D'Amato may get court TV show

LOS ANGELES, March 22 (UPI) -- Former U.S. Sen. Al D'Amato, R-N.Y., is reportedly in talks to star in a court-style TV show in the vein of "Judge Judy."

Nicknamed "Sen. Pothole" due to his personal involvement in constituents' cases, D'Amato has been in discussions with several major syndicators on court TV series he developed, The Hollywood Reporter said Friday.

After serving in the U.S. Senate from 1981-99, D'Amato went on to write a book, "Power, Pasta & Politics: The World According to Senator Al D'Amato."

He followed up the 1995 publication by founding the consulting firm Park Strategies. He plans for the TV to begin airing in fall 2009, the Reporter said.

Court-themed TV series are a hot property, the trade paper said, particularly for daytime programming. In addition to "Judy," there are at least 10 court-based series on the air and plans call for two more to premiere this fall.
