LONDON, March 4 (UPI) -- Principal photography on the new big-screen British comedy "The Boat that Rocked" is under way, representatives for the film said Tuesday.

Universal Pictures and Working Title Films said shooting on Richard Curtis' latest movie began Monday.

"Inspired by the British pirate radio revolution in the 1960s, the majority of the film's shoot will take place in a large rusty metal fishing trawler moored off the coast of England in the very waters that kept the rock of the 1960s booming into the United Kingdom," the film's producers said a statement.

The filmmakers said that in 1966 the BBC played only two hours of rock 'n' roll every week, however, pirate radio stations broadcast the music from the high seas 24 hours a day.

The movie about a group of rogue disc jockeys stars Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bill Nighy, Rhys Ifans, Nick Frost, Kenneth Branagh, Tom Sturridge, Jack Davenport, Ralph Brown, Chris O'Dowd and January Jones

Curtis' films include "Four Weddings and a Funeral," "Notting Hill," "Bridget Jones's Diary" and "Love Actually."
