80th Academy Awards ceremony under way

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- The 80th Academy Awards show, which honors the year's best in film, is under way at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.

The Writers Guild of America strike had jeopardized the high-profile presentation, but the work stoppage ended this month, meaning there was no WGA picket line outside the venue and union scribes were allowed to help write the show.
