The former Long Island, N.Y., couple made headlines when jealous teen Fisher shot Buttafuoco's wife Mary Jo, in the head. Both Fisher and Buttafuoco spent time behind bars for their actions.

In the "Maury" interview, Buttafuoco described his ex-wife, Mary Jo, as "the meanest person on the planet."

"I don't blame her right now, 'cause she went through a lot … I did what I had to do with my life to be with (my new wife) Evanka," he said.

Buttafuoco added he thinks "very highly of Amy these days."

"Look, something terrible happened years ago. She paid her price. She went on with her life," he said. "She turned into a wonderful, wonderful mom. I have great respect for her."

Fisher returned the compliment, telling host Maury Povich, "Oh, I love him."
