DETROIT, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- U.S. singer Kid Rock says he is extremely proud of the recent success of his Rock And Roll Revival tour, which includes revue-style performances.
The popular singer, whose real name is Robert James Ritchie, said he was pleasantly surprised that his fans appreciated tour guests such as rapper Rev. Run from Run DMC and J. Geils Band singer Peter Wolf, Billboard reported Friday.
"After the first show, we were all like, 'I can't believe this thing worked!'" Ritchie said. The "Rock N Roll Jesus" singer said the tour's unusual set-up was inspired by early road tours and was intended to honor such inspirational performers as the Rev. Run.
"Hip-hop was my blues music," he said, "and it seems like what happened with blues was a lot of people forgot about it, and then bands like the (Rolling) Stones started taking out Muddy Waters and giving them their props. I feel like that's my thing with old school hip-hop."
In fact, Billboard said Kid Rock will be pairing with the Run DMC rapper during their tour for a new album appropriately titled "Riding With the Kid."
