LOS ANGELES, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- Hollywood filmmaker Sam Raimi has signed on to executive produce a new, live-action fantasy TV series for Disney-ABC Domestic Television and ABC Studios.
Raimi is best-known for directing three "Spider-Man" blockbusters, but his film credits also include "The Gift," "A Simple Plan" and "The Evil Dead."
Based on Terry Goodkind's popular "The Sword of Truth" novels, the new weekly, hour-long TV show "Wizard's First Rule" is set for a fall debut, The Hollywood Reporter said.
"In discussing these incredible story lines and rich characters with my friends and partners Robert Tapert and Josh Donen, we agreed that 'Wizard's First Rule' would make an amazing television series -- one that could be produced with compelling, self-contained episodes," Raimi told the entertainment industry trade paper.
Tapert, Donen and Ned Nalle will executive produce the 22-episode series, along with Raimi.
Disney-ABC Domestic TV is distributing the show, while ABC Studios is producing, The Hollywood Reporter said.
Production is expected to start in May.
