LOS ANGELES, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- Joel and Ethan Coen are the first siblings to win the Directors Guild of America's best directing award thanks to their film "No Country for Old Men."
While Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins won the guild's directorial award in 1961 for "West Side Story," the Los Angeles Times said Sunday that the Coen brothers are the first sibling pair to earn the designation.
"Old Men," a cinematic adaptation of a novel by writer Cormac McCarthy, also has the Minnesota brothers nominated for an Oscar award in the same category and has already led the duo to several other accolades.
Saturday's 60th annual Directors Guild ceremony also included awards for best TV drama series for AMC's "Mad Men," a best TV movie win for Yves Simonoeau for his work on HBO's "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" and a best TV comedy series win for "Pushing Daisies" director Barry Sonnenfeld.
The Times said "One Life to Live" director Larry Carpenter was recognized for the best daytime serial, while "The Amazing Race" director Bertram Van Munster won for best reality TV series.
