Tarantino honored at Sundance

PARK CITY, Utah, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Hollywood filmmaker Quentin Tarantino was honored Sunday with the 2008 Ray-Ban Visionary Award at the Sundance film festival in Park City, Utah.

Producers Harvey and Bob Weinstein and actors Tim Daly, Sandra Oh and Marcia Gay Harden were on hand to see Dennis Hopper present Tarantino with the award, Ray-Ban said in a statement Monday.

"It's particularly cool to get an award from Ray-Ban," Tarantino said during his acceptance speech. "When I'm writing my scripts, the only time I've ever really used the brand names as opposed to describing what something is, is Zippo lighters and Ray-Bans. 'He puts on his Ray-Bans as he flips on his Zippo.'"

Tarantino collaborated with Hopper on the 1993 movie "True Romance" and the upcoming film "Hell Ride."

Tarantino's other films include "Reservoir Dogs," "Pulp Fiction," "Grindhouse," "Jackie Brown" and "Kill Bill."

This is the sixth year the Ray-Ban Visionary Award, in partnership with The Creative Coalition, has been presented.
