PARK CITY, Utah, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- A documentary about controversial filmmaker Roman Polanski was screened at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah during the weekend.
Although Polanski directed movie classics such as "The Pianist," "Chinatown" and "Rosemary's Baby," his celebrity image was marred after being convicted in 1977 of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. The French-born Polish director then fled the United States and has been living in Europe ever since.
His troubles and triumphs are the focus of Marina Zenovich's documentary "Polanski: Wanted and Desired," Variety.com reported.
The Weinstein Co. snapped up international rights to the film at Friday night's world premiere at Sundance, while HBO Documentary locked in all U.S. rights, including video and theatrical, Saturday, the trade newspaper said.
