LOS ANGELES, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Oliver Stone plans to make a film about U.S. President George W. Bush, with "No Country for Old Men" star Josh Brolin in the title role.
The screenplay is by Stanley Weiser, who co-wrote "Wall Street" with Stone, Daily Variety reported. Weiser also wrote "Rudy: The Rudy Giuliani Story," the 2003 TV adaptation of a book by Wayne Barrett.
"Bush" is being produced by Moritz Borman, a producer on Stone's "World Trade Center" and "Alexander," and Jon Kilik, who was a producer on "Alexander," and on Stone's recently canceled project, "Pinkville" -- an account of the investigation into the Vietnam-era My Lai massacre. Production on "Pinkville" was halted by the Hollywood writers' strike.
Borman said the "Bush" screenplay was completed before the strike.
Stone told Variety he doesn't intend "Bush" to be anti-Bush, but wants to make "a fair, true portrait of the man."
"People have turned my political ideas into a cliche, but that is superficial," he said. "I'm a dramatist who is interested in people, and I have empathy for Bush as a human being, much the same as I did for Castro, Nixon, Jim Morrison, Jim Garrison and Alexander the Great."
