KOSOVO, Serbia, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- U.S. rap artist 50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, played to a crowd of about 25,000 at a concert in the Serbian province of Kosovo.

Fans had speculated the entertainer might cancel the gig because the threat of violence is escalating as Kosovo prepares to declare its independence from Serbia. However, the show went on as planned, the BBC said Wednesday.

The concert sold out 10 hours after tickets were released, ndtvmusic.com reported.

"This is my third world tour and how can I call it a tour if I'm not going everywhere," the Web site quoted 50 Cent as saying. "I came to entertain the world. My ambition is to put on a great show. I'm not a government. I don't actually want to control the world. Everybody has different opinions how I should actually be. ... They were talking about how they have different views and how America feels things should be. It's not for me to decide. My job is to put on a great show."

"I hope that we will have more opportunities to have more people like him coming and performing in Kosovo. It's a great, great feeling tonight," fan Elza Januzi told the BBC.
