Fonda celebrates 70th birthday in Atlanta

ATLANTA, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- Sally Field, Eve Ensler, Rosie O'Donnell and Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin all turned out for Hollywood icon Jane Fonda's 70th birthday party.

The Thursday night gala for the two-time Oscar winner was held at the Biltmore in Midtown Atlanta.

Also at the bash were Fonda's ex-husband Ted Turner, who was seen talking amiably with Fonda's new beau, retired New York businessman Lynden Gillis, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

About 100 other guests attended the event, which was also a fund-raiser for Fonda's Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention.

The night raised $2.4 million, Fonda said.

"When Jane invited me to her 70th birthday, I had a brief flash of a few of us sitting around a dining room table," Field said. "And then I remembered this was Jane. She wouldn't allow us just to celebrate her when there are so many underprivileged kids out there. She's one of my longest friends. I love her to my core. I'm honored to be here."

O'Donnell added that when she was a child, "(Fonda) was on my TV telling me what we all know to be true: War is wrong. The difference was, Jane was the only adult I saw saying it."
