Imus' show faces technical difficulties

NEW YORK, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- U.S. radio personality Don Imus' second day back on the air was fraught with technical difficulties, the New York Daily News reported Wednesday.

Imus started his new WABC radio show Monday at Manhattan's Town Hall, eight months after he was fired from another network for making disparaging remarks about the Rutgers University women's basketball team.

Tuesday marked the first day in his new studio, set up for the RFD-TV simulcast of his show.

Unfortunately, much of the equipment did not work right for the first half of the show.

Phone connections made interviews difficult and Imus and his team had trouble communicating with their engineer at WABC across the street, the News said.

"It was certainly embarrassing," said Tom Taylor, editor of Radio-Info.com. "Such displays don't make anybody look good -- including Imus himself, who has nothing to do with the technical end."

"It wasn't one of our finest moments," admitted WABC program director Phil Boyce. "Because this was just his second show for us, we had no backup tape to put on while we worked to fix it. Fortunately, I believe we did fix it. We were on it all day and I don't think it will happen again."
