Sony sued over Meat Loaf album logo

LONDON, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- A U.S. court has ordered Sony Music to pay $5 million to a small record company for leaving its logo off Meat Loaf's iconic "Bat Out of Hell" album.

More than 30 million copies of the album, which was originally released in 1979, have been sold.

A court decision in 1998 said Sony should feature the Cleveland International logo on future copies of the record. However, the company failed to do so until more than a year later, the BBC said.

Cleveland founder Steve Popovich said, "I worked too hard for them and made them too much money to get robbed now."

Sony claimed the logo omission was an error it eventually corrected.

Earlier this month, Meat Loaf canceled his European tour due to illness, but assured fans he has no immediate plans to retire.
