Actor Rhys Meyers arrested in Dublin

DUBLIN, Ireland, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Jonathan Rhys Meyers' weekend arrest for public drunkenness at Dublin Airport seems to contradict anti-drinking statements he made in a recent interview.

Rhys Meyers, who spent time in rehab earlier this year, was arrested Sunday as he was preparing to fly to London, RTE Entertainment reported.

An airport representative confirmed that a passenger was refused access to a flight and escorted back through security to the main airport, the broadcaster said.

In the issue of Details magazine on stands now, Rhys Meyers is quoted as saying: "I didn't drink until I was 25, and I never drank every day, but when I did, it was bad. It would be a couple of days that just wouldn't work out for me, waking up with a hangover. Drink doesn't fit into the groove of where my life is going."

The 30-year-old Irish actor, who now lives in Los Angeles, was released on cash bail. He is scheduled to appear in Dublin District Court next month.

Rhys Meyers, known for his roles in "Match Point" and TV's "The Tudors," had been in the country to promote his latest film, "August Rush." He had appeared on RTE's "Tubridy Tonight" program Saturday.
