Gadhafi book to be turned into movie

ROME, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- A series of sketches by Libyan President Moammar Gadhafi on the Italian invasion of Libya is to be filmed next year.

The movie, titled "Dhulm -- Years of Torment," is to depict historical events little remembered outside Libya, The Independent reports. Dhulm is the Arabic word for injustice.

Italy invaded Libya in 1911, thinking that the outpost of the weak Ottoman Empire would be easy pickings. For the next 20 years, Libyans were bombed, killed and driven south into the Sahara Desert.

"Dhulm" is Gadhafi's second effort with the same material. More than 20 years ago, Libya made "Omar Mukhtar: Lion of the Desert," about a Bedouin teacher who led resistance to the Italians until he was hanged when he was past 70 years old. Despite featuring an international cast headed by Anthony Quinn, the movie did not do well outside Libya and was banned in Italy.
