Women say magician creepy, not dangerous

NEW YORK, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- Two women say they think American illusionist David Copperfield uses his magic prowess to pick up women, but stress they don't believe he is capable of rape.

Copperfield is under investigation by the FBI for alleged sexual misconduct after a 21-year-old Seattle woman claimed he raped her while they were in the Bahamas. Copperfield has not been charged and denies any wrong doing.

Karina Halle and Amanda Heidl both told Inside Edition they felt they had been chosen to assist in magic tricks so Copperfield could hit on them.

"I do think that David Copperfield uses his show to pick up women," Heidl said, adding: "He was creepy and strange, but I don't think that David is capable of being a rapist."

Halle agreed, noting: "I wouldn't like to think that. He should just give us more magic and less of 'I'm David Copperfield, sex God."

Halle said she felt uncomfortable when she was brought on stage.

"He put his arm around me and whispered in my ear and told me to grab his butt," she recalled, adding he also asked her to repeatedly lick an ice cream cone and inquired about who accompanied her to the show.
