LANDOVER, Md., Nov. 1 (UPI) -- Greg Grunberg, who plays Matt Parkman on the U.S. TV series "Heroes" has been named spokesman and team leader for the upcoming National Walk for Epilepsy.

The event is scheduled to take place March 29 on the National Mall in Washington, the Epilepsy Foundation announced Thursday.

The goal of the walk is to raise more than $1.5 million for epilepsy services, education, advocacy and research.

"For many people with epilepsy, the biggest problem is not the disorder itself, but society's negative attitudes toward people with the condition," Eric R. Hargis, president and chief executive officer of the Epilepsy Foundation, said in a statement. "We commend Greg and his family for courageously sharing their personal experiences with epilepsy. We hope their story will inform and inspire more people to speak out."

Grunberg, whose eldest son has epilepsy, founded and performs with Band From TV, a charity-focused celebrity band featuring Hugh Laurie, James Denton, Bonnie Summerville and Bob Guiney.

The band helps raise money and awareness for a variety of charities, including the Epilepsy Foundation.
