Headbangers produce new album themselves

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 31 (UPI) -- California hard rockers Avenged Sevenfold opted to produce their latest album by themselves.

Front man M. Shadows said the group talked to several potential producers for the group's self-titled fourth album, including hitmakers such as Rob Cavallo (Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Kid Rock) and Howard Benson (P.O.D., Hoobastank). But the quintet ultimately decided to handle the production itself.

"We just weren't feeling any vibe from any of them," said Shadows (real name Matt Sanders). "Our engineer even said to us, 'Dude, you know how to make records. It's easy; you wrote the songs, just put a mic on something and record it. Either it sucks or it doesn't.'

"At the end of the day, it was easy, and we had a blast. We work way crazier hours than any producer we'd work with, anyway, and we didn't have to deal with any of the bull ..."
