NEW YORK, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- U.S. rock star Debbie Harry doesn't intend to fade away but has no intention of resting solely on her past achievements either, The New York Times has reported.
While many of her contemporaries are considered retro acts, Harry last week released "Necessary Evil," her first solo album in 14 years.
She also plans to kick off a nationwide tour on Nov. 8 at the Fillmore New York at Irving Plaza.
"I never wanted to be in an oldies band; I just didn't," Harry told the Times. "I was just ready to do something new and I needed to be creative."
Chris Stein, who with Harry founded the seminal punk-new wave band Blondie in the 1970s, said of Harry's latest endeavor, "I think she wanted to do an independent, under-the-radar thing."
Harry wrote the album in a year and a half, while on breaks from Blondie's world tours.
She paid to record it herself in a small studio in Brooklyn, the newspaper said.
