Heart singer mines her heart on solo album

SEATTLE, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- Seattle rocker Ann Wilson said the desire to record "songs of social consciousness" inspired her first solo album.

"Hope & Glory" features just one new song, "Little Problems, Little Lies," and 11 of the Heart front woman's favorites from Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, Neil Young, the Animals, Pink Floyd and others. All, she said, share a common theme.

"The amount of bombardment we get from reality every day is pretty terrifying and stressful, and very negative," Wilson said. "These songs talk about that but also supply some kind of option. They're poetic about how to deal with stress and the ideas that are coming down on us like rain.

"Hopefully this is something people can take with them and use in their lives to listen to and maybe be inspired by."

"Hope & Glory" features collaborations with Elton John, Gretchen Wilson, k.d. lang and Wilson's sister and Heart partner Nancy Wilson, among others.
