Daniels to perform at Michigan concert

CHELSEA, Mich., Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Michigan actor, singer and songwriter Jeff Daniels says he will perform at a concert celebrating his native state's homegrown musicians this fall.

"The Second Annual Jeff Daniels & Friends" show is slated for Nov. 24 at Ann Arbor's historic Michigan Theater.

This year's lineup will include folk, blues and jazz musicians, including vocalists, fiddlers, folk bands and a women's percussion group, as well as new music written and performed by Daniels, who is best-known for his films "The Squid and the Whale," "Terms of Endearment," "RV" and "Dumb and "Dumber."

Daniels said the concert was inspired by an event hosted by folk legend Arlo Guthrie.

"Arlo and friends get together every year around Thanksgiving and take over Carnegie Hall in a huge celebration of folk music," Daniels said in a statement. "I wanted to do something similar to celebrate some of the great artists we have in Michigan."

He said last year's sold-out concert was so successful it was an easy decision to do another one.

"Year one of 'Jeff Daniels & Friends' was a complete blast," he said. "We had 1,750 people up on their feet singing and dancing in the aisles. I'd say we've started something big."
