Former Spears guard calls for abuse probe

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Britney Spears's former bodyguard is calling for an official investigation into the U.S. pop singer's relationship with her two young children.

Spears's ex-husband, Kevin Federline, won full temporary custody of their sons, earlier this week. Spears has been granted visitation rights with the boys, but the visits must be monitored.

Now, her former bodyguard, Tony Barretto, has asked the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services to open a child abuse investigation into the singer's alleged drug use and inappropriate behavior around her children, People.com reported.

Barretto had a two-hour meeting with DCFS officials in which he made a "child abuse referral," said his attorney Gloria Allred.

"It was our understanding at the end of the meeting ... (that) the department will investigate to the best of their ability," Allred continued. "It was important that we filed because the department has no legal power to investigate unless there is a filing. Now that we have filed, they have the power to open an investigation."

DCFS spokesman Stuart Riskin said, "We do not comment about potential investigations."
