Hall of Fame nods for Madonna, Summer

NEW YORK, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- U.S. recording artists Madonna, the Beastie Boys and Donna Summer have been nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Also making the short list of first-time nominees are Afrika Bambaataa, Leonard Cohen and the Ventures, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported Friday.

Chic, the Dave Clark Five and John Mellencamp have all been nominated again after they failed to earn enough votes for the honor in previous years.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation supervises the induction process and a ceremony is traditionally held in New York City, where the foundation has its headquarters.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum is located in Cleveland.

Artists are eligible for enshrinement 25 years after the release of their first recording.

Plans for the 2008 induction ceremony haven't been announced.
