TORONTO, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- The veteran British rock group Genesis kicked off its first North American tour in 15 years at Toronto’s new BMO Field.
About 26,000 fans turned out to see Friday's on-stage reunion of Phil Collins, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford on the first stop of their 20-city, North American "Turn It On Again" tour.
The band has already played before 1.5 million fans and sold out some of the world's largest venues on the European leg of its outing, representatives for the band said in a statement.
Formed in 1966 when original members Banks, Rutherford, Peter Gabriel and Anthony Phillips were still in school, the band reached the peak of its success with Collins on lead vocals and sharing song-writing duties with Rutherford and Banks from the late 1970s until the 1990s.
The Grammy Award-winning band has sold more than 130 million albums.
Among its hits are "I Can’t Dance," "Invisible Touch," "Land of Confusion," "In Too Deep," "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight," "That’s All" and "Jesus He Knows Me."
Genesis is also set to reissue its four most commercially successful studio albums -- "Genesis," "Invisible Touch," "We Can't Dance" and "Calling All Stations" -- Oct. 1.
