STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal has signed on to star in Swedish director Lukas Moodysson's first English-language feature, The Local reported Thursday.
An established star in Mexican movies, the 28-year-old Bernal earned global acclaim playing Che Guevara in the 2004 film, "The Motorcycle Diaries" -- an international co-production helmed by Brazilian director Walter Salles and written by Puerto Rican playwright Jose Rivera.
He has also acted in the English-language films, "Babel" and "The King."
For Moodysson’s project, "Mammoth," Bernal will play a successful Manhattan IT tycoon who experiences a crisis of confidence on a business trip to Thailand, Dagens Nyheter reported.
"Gael is one of the most exciting actors in the world. I am convinced that nobody else could play this role as well as he will," Moodysson told the newspaper.
The celebrated director of "Together" and "Show Me Love" is expected to begin filming is new project in October. The movie will be shot on location in the Philippines, New York, Thailand and Sweden.
