IMAX film earns $50M at box office

LOS ANGELES , Sept. 5 (UPI) -- The IMAX underwater adventure "Deep Sea 3D" has earned more than $50 million in total gross box office receipts since it premiered in March 2006.

Co-narrated by "Finding Neverland" stars Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet, and featuring music by composer Danny Elfman, the film has played in more than 120 IMAX theaters worldwide.

"Part of what makes the original IMAX film business so unique is that a single film can generate impressive box office receipts for years, not just weeks," said Dan Fellman, president of domestic distribution for Warner Bros. Pictures. "We are delighted that ‘Deep Sea 3D’ is continuing to capture the hearts of millions of moviegoers worldwide and we look forward to sharing the film's exciting sequel with them in 2009."

Warner Bros. Pictures, IMAX and the renowned "Deep Sea 3D" filmmaking team are in pre-production on the sequel.
